Maui Surfer Girls announces sea, surf, and soul retreats
New Programming Tailored to Women’s Surf Skills
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 03 November 2004: - - (MAUI, HI) October 28, 2004 – Blue Crush was no summer fling – the number of female surfers in the U.S. has grown 70% since 2001. It’s no surprise, then, that as the sport’s popularity continues to rise, so do the travel needs of women waveriders.
Responding to demand for its personalized coaching and aloha spirit beyond Maui’s breaks, Maui Surfer Girls (MSG), one of the nation’s first all-female surf camps, has expanded its programming to include destination retreats for women (ages 18 and older) to some of the world’s top surf sites. MSG surges into 2005 with its new “Sea, Surf and Soul” series tailored to women’s broadening range of prowess and their irrepressible sense of adventure. This year, Costa Rica – offered as the first in this series – is scheduled for March, when the country’s waves are at their most crisp.
Sea, Surf and Soul: Costa Rica ~ MSG’s seven-day retreat, priced at $2,100 plus taxes, will be held from March 17 - 24 and includes: accommodations and transportation on a privately chartered, 60-foot catamaran; all meals; personalized coaching by Maui Surfer Girls’ founder Dustin Tester; pre- and post-sail accommodations; and airport transfers. Surfers will sail from Puntarenas on March 18, pausing along the Pacific coastline to surf a variety of breaks including Pavones, the longest left in the world. These surf sites are not accessible by land, offering an ideal opportunity to improve surf skills on pristine, uncrowded waves. In addition to surfing, daily activities include sailing and sport fishing, with the day’s catch prepared by the on-board chef for the evening meal. The trip is recommended for beginner to intermediate surfers with at least one year of surfing experience. Participants will need to bring their own boards, or make special arrangements through MSG.
“There is a growing population of wahine who have been surfing for a couple of years and are ready to move beyond their local break,” notes founder Dustin Tester. “MSG’s Sea, Surf and Soul retreats offer them the opportunity to do so, with personalized coaching and the company of other women.”
Established in 2000, Maui Surfer Girls (MSG) offers premier surf experiences for surfer girls of all ages. MSG differentiates itself from other surf retreats with its focus on personalized coaching, experiential education and self-empowerment. Founder Dustin Tester is trained in wilderness therapy and has been surfing since she was seven.
MSG is proud to announce its fourth year of partnership with Billabong. Devoted to the active woman, Billabong has helped make the connection between action sports and the lifestyle that lets her express her individualism, creativity and sense of style. Supported by some of the best surf, skateboard and snowboard athletes in the world, Billabong is a product of its environment, made up of people who live the lifestyle they promote.
