Big Wave News:
Laird Hamilton joins Chris Chelios (NHL) in Olympic Bobsled bid
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 November 2004: - - National Hockey League player Chris Chelios knows ice. Surfing legend Laird Hamilton knows a thing or two about adrenaline rushes. Together, the two athletes hope to someday appear in the bobsledding competition at the Winter Olympics.
On Wednesday, they made the run down the Verizon Sports Complex track outside of Lake Placid with members of the U.S. men's bobsled team. Hamilton called his first run "unbelievable" and compared the intensity to that of a surfing wipeout. Chelios and Hamilton both have aspirations of making it onto the Greek Olympic four-man bobsled team. Both of Chelios' parents are Greek and Hamilton's father is Greek.
Chelios -- a three-time U.S. Olympic hockey player -- made his first run a couple of weeks ago with the American women's bobsled team. Both men are traveling to Calgary, Canada next week to train again with the men's bobsled team.
