Bali & Mentawai surf industry help Aceh.
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 December 2004 (04h00 GMT): - - Members of the Bali surf industry and Mentawai yacht charters are joining in an effort to reach all the small coastal villages of Sumatra that will be the last location major rescue operations will reach. This will be the fastest way to help the people worst affected by the tsunami. The joint effort is being co-ordinated by IDEP, a long established and respected NGO aid organization based in Bali.

Trucks and planes have already made initial shipments to Aceh city with goods donated from Bali. Yachts will be leaving Padang soon to deliver supplies (and doctors who will be coming soon from Surf Aid International) into these remote coastal villages now totally inaccessible by road. The plan is to send the boats in with goods and take people out. There is also a plan to set up a ferry as a floating hospital.
