R.I.P. Hunter Thompson:

Hunter S Thompson dead at 67 fron a apparent self inflicted gun shot wound

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 February 2005: - - Dr. Hunter S. Thompson's body was found Sunday night by his son Juan Thompson at his compound at Woody Creek near Aspen Colorado. His death was confirmed by his close friend Bob Braupis the Sheriff of Pitkin County.

Hunter Thompson was credited with creating his on form of Journalism known as Gonzo Journalism or NEW Journalism in the early 70's, a form of reporting that immerses the writer as part of the story. His most famous Novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was made into a Hollywood movie staring Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro.

As a reporter for Rolling Stone Magazine Dr.Gonzo went on many wild adventures covering everything from the 1972 Presidental Campaign involving Richard M Nixon among many others, and a book about the Hells Angels "The Outlaw Bikker Gang". His fights with Rolling Stones Editor Jann Wenner are lendgenary, mostly over expence accounts for story's, and deadlines that where never met. One such request that was met was to have three Blond Bombshells flown to Hawaii so he could dictate his story's to them.

In 2003 Thompson to the Associated Press "Fiction is based on reality unless you're a fairy-tail artist".

Any Surf Journalist that's worth his (or her) salt owes everything to Dr. Thompson, since 90% of all surf related story's use this form of journalism.
