Surfing Australia and Boards Shorts help Tsunami victims
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 March 2005: - - Surfing Australia last night showed its support to SurfAid, the surf industry fundraising program raising funds for the victims of the Boxing Day tsunami.
Surfing Australia posted the winning bid of $10,000 for five pairs of framed boardshorts signed by former and potential world champions. The boardshorts are individually signed by World Champions Tom Carrol, Kelly Slater, Mark Occhilupo, Andy Irons and current World #1 Mick Fanning.
The auction was part of Australian Surfing Life’s Big Nite which celebrated 20 years for the surfing magazine.
Surfing Australia’s President “Bushy” Mitchell and CEO Mario Agius were on hand to coordinate the winning bid and were pleased that the national sporting organisation was able to show its support of for all the work that SurfAid has accomplished.
“Australian surfers have been visiting the region decimated by the tsunami for years, taking advantage of some of the most isolated locations to surf some of the greatest waves on the planet, this was our way of putting something back on behalf of all surfers who have surfed in the region” Surfing Australia’s CEO Mario Agius said.
