National Finals of the Rip Curl GromSearch
USA Surf Team Members Dominate Rip Curl GromSearch National Finals
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, Huntington Beach, CA,7 November, 2005;- USA Surf Team Member Jeff Lukasik from San Clemente, CA just slashed his way to victory in the 16 & Under Boys division at the Rip Curl GromSearch National Finals held at Salt Creek on November 5th, 2005. His smooth rail turns and powerful off the tops aimed to hold off some notable Hawaiians in the Final.
When the ending horn sounded, Lukasik had secured his victory and a berth to compete in the International GromSearch Finals held at Bells Beach, Australia – which runs in conjunction with the ASP World Tour Rip Curl Pro. He’ll fly to Oz this spring on an all expense paid trip to compete against the winners from GromSeach Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, South Africa, France, and others.
Hawaii’s Alana Blanchard, also a USA Team Member, won the 16 & Under Girls crown and will join Lukasik at the International Finals. In fact, 2005 USA Team Members swept the top five spots in the Girls Final at Creek. Kauai’s Bethany Hamilton took second, Florida’s Amy Nichol nabbed third, while California’s Lexi Papilion and Demi Boelsterli finished fourth and fifth respectively.
It appears the USA teamers arrived with their game faces on; fresh off two weeks of competing and training during the 2005 Quiksilver/ISA World Junior Surfing Championships (WJSC), in which Coach Peter “PT” Townend shared his secrets to competitive success. Lukasik’s win could be considered his biggest victory to date. Although, he did finish equal 13th at the WJSCs last month, helping the USA’s effort for a Bronze Medal finish.
