Can Island Surfboards make it two in a row?

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 February, 2006 : - - Island Surfboards will be looking to make it two in a row when the second annual Quiksilver Core Store Surf Challenge hits the water at Jan Juc beach next Tuesday with a host of Victorian surf stores having entered teams into the tag-team style industry event.

Peninsula Surf, Strapper Surfboards, Quiksilver BRC, Green Room and Ozmosis are among those hoping to put a dint into Island’s campaign, with the winning team earning a berth into the Core Store Grand Final scheduled for the pumping waves of Snapper Rocks during the Quiksilver Pro presented by Samsung WCT waiting period beginning on the Gold Coast February 28th.

Island won the Victorian leg last year, then went on to win the major prize at Snapper, a surf trip of a life time aboard the Quiksilver Crossing. This year the winning team from each Australian state and New Zealand will surf it out in the grand final for a whopping $10,000. All teams competing at Snapper receive assistance with airfares, accommodation and V.I.P tickets to the Pro, plus the money-can’t-buy opportunity to surf perfect barrelling waves while the world watches.

Island captain Glyndyn Ringrose is hopeful his team of employees, Simon McShane, Carl Wright and Ainslie Burt can get up again, and they’ve already been putting in some practise. “I think we’ve got a strong team even though I’m the weak link bringing up the rear,” joked Ringrose. “Nah, hopefully we can do well. I’m pretty confident, we’re feeling good. We’ve got a training session under our belt so (to the other teams) … Beware!”

Quiksilver will be making a day of it, bringing in surfing World Champs Tom Carroll, Martin Potter and former world number five Matt Hoy to commentate and meet and greet surfers. Co-Sponsor F.C.S. (Fin Control Systems) will also be setting up a Test Drive Centre on the beach with expert fin technicians on site to lend advice, as well as the latest fins to try. A range of new Quiksilver surfboards will be available to the public to ride, in modern and retro shapes.

Spectators are urged to get down to Jan Juc and make the most of the product on offer, meet the big name stars and cheer as the local stores put their reputation on the line! An afternoon barbecue is also planned.

The Quiksilver Core Store Surf Challenge is proudly supported by Australian Surf Business (ASB) Magazine and FCS (Fin Control Systems).
