Guinness Surfing World Record
World record attempt set for next Saturday
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 May, 2006 : - - Hola amigos, the picture above is our practice run on Sunday May 7th for breaking the Guinness world record for most amount of people surfing a wave. Today we had only 37 surfers attempt to catch the same wave and managed to get 20 standing. Not bad odds, yet we NEED MORE SURFERS!
The current record stands at 40 and was set last year in Rio.
Official attempt is next Saturday 13th from 2pm........ Be part of history and a Guinness World Record! The record will also feature in Ireland's first surf film "and then the wind died..." www.dreamcatcherproductions.ie/film1.html
Reggae Band are playing on the roof of lahinch surf school. Hector is MC and DJ in the Coast night club. 'Most number of people on a wave' world record attempt.. happens at 3pm..
We need 250 surfers!! Were going to blow the current record out of the water!!! Yeee haaa!
Lahinch Surf School Ireland World Record
Lahinch Surf School Ireland, will attempt to break the 'most number of surfers standing on the one wave' world record of 40 people.
The record will be broken by over 40 surfers simultaneously paddling for the same swell line, standing for more than 5 seconds, riding the wave to the beach. A number of qualified surf judges will be on hand to liaise with Guinness Book of Records officials who are coming over from the UK to monitor the record attempt.
We have a perfect setting on Lahinch Beach to host this record, says Andy Burke the 'Surfing Mayor of Lahinch' and with an extensive number of qualified beach lifeguards and Lahinch Surf School surf instructors to co-ordinate safety and logistics of the event we are pretty confident we can set the new record to atleast 100.
Upon officially lodging the attempt with the Guiness Book of Records, event organizer Oisin McGrath spoke of the event as 'a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of a Guinness world record, the existing record was recorded in Rio de Janiero a year ago, how cool will it be for the world record to be from Lahinch, Ireland'. 'We are asking surfers and non-surfers of all levels to come along at 2pm on May 13th and 14th'. We are hoping for between 200 to 300 surfers to come and attempt to ride the world record wave. That's one big "Shakka Party Wave" say's co-organizer Aaron Gallagher! Aaron's brother Gavin Gallagher will be escorting the Guinness book of records lads around lahinch. Lets hope they don't get carried away with the whole festival atmosphere and loose count of the number of surfers on a wave.

Attempt for Surfing World Record underway in Ireland
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 April, 2006 : - - Thought I'd invite you all to come and surf the "Party Wave" in Lahinch on 13th of May around 2pm. We've registered an attempt at the world record with the guinness book of records and a pair of shams from the guinness book are coming over to over see the attempt. Plan is to get as many stoked surfers as is possible on one wave and have a party while we're at it, bands and BBQ outside O'Looneys Bar, starting from 2pm on that saturday.
We're meeting this weekend to plan how the feck we are going to try organise more than 50 surfers to catch the same wave (ever try organising 5 surfers to do anything!?). Rough plan is to meet up boards under arm on the beach at 3pm on the 13th and make an attempt every 5 or 15 minutes - depending on the waves size - for 30 minutes or so. Meet up again on the beach and try understand why we only got 2 surfers on a wave and go at it again for another 30minutes. Sunday is also an option is Saturday doesn't happen.
We've got some pretty good musicians lined up (Andy Burkes home coming party), just need waves and hopefully a bit of sunshine, oh yeh and shed loads of surfers. Should be a good day. For more info or to get involved contact Oisin McGrath on : lahinchworldrecord@gmail.com
We'll post the final plans on how what we come up with this weekend.

CLARE PEOPLE ARTICLE
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 April, 2006 : - - Preparation for the Surfing World Record in Lahinch is at full speed. It's hard to believe we are only three weeks from the event. Event organisers Oisin McGrath and Aaron Gallgher together with their friends from Dreamcatcher Productions and Lahinch Surf School are well
under way with preparations for the big event.
Dreamcatcher Productions Gavin Gallagher in a letter to the Guinness Book of Records outlines the complex technicalities of the world
record attempt.

On the day deemed most suitable we will make numerous attempts to set the record at 15minute intervals. The only thing we need is waves!
Sponsors such as the Clare People, Redbull, Erdinger Beer and LahinchSurfSchool.com will ensure that the event gets the promotion and organization it needs over the next 3 weeks. Redbull are providing their vintage entertainment decking system to provide the sounds and
