Third Leg Of BPSA Tour Set For June at Lusty Glaze

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 June, 2006 : - - The third leg of the British Professional Surfers Association (BPSA) Tour returns to Lusty Glaze for the infamous Fat Face Night Surf, part of the Fat Face Night Series. The Fat Face Night Surf will run from 16-18th June 2006 at Newquay’s Lusty Glaze Beach and will feature 4 divisions. Last year’s event saw another great party at Lusty and no doubt Fat Face will put on another great show!

The Fat Face Night Surf will include 4 divisions including the Open event which is a 2 Star rated event, offering £3000 with the title being held by Micah Lester. The Women’s Event is a 1 Star event with a £500 purse held by Nicole Morgan, the Longboard Open is also a 1 Star event held by Lee Ryan, who last year also won the Freerange Money Move for Best Floater, the only time in 2 years that a longboarder has won a Freerange Money Move and £250. Finally on Sunday 18th there will be the Fat Face Grom Challenge, a new addition the event.

Lusty Glaze, situated 10 minutes north of Fistral, is a perfect event site for the Fat Face Night Surf, self sufficient with all facilities available and surrounded by 200ft cliffs, creating a natural amphitheatre to watch the action. Lusty Glaze is described as a regional classic wedgy beach break with left and right hand breaks on offer.

The BPSA Tour has had a great start this year with the Croyde event and then some epic conditions at Thurso East! After two podium finishes Spencer Hargraves is leading the tour followed by Croyde winner Toby Atkins. Both of these surfers will be looking for a good result at this event to keep up their title chances while all the other BPSA contenders will be aiming for a big result to push them back into contention. However there is a long way to go and it’s looking like a very interesting tour!

Aside from the surfing, Fat Face, in conjunction with Foster’s and FSO will be throwing a party on Saturday night at Lusty Glaze fuelled with Foster’s Barbie and beers, live music and fireworks. The party is a regular fixture in the Newquay calendar so make sure you get there early as it’s going to be busy!

The Fat Face Night Surf is the second stop of the Fat Face Night Series 2006.  The other night events are Skiing, Mountain Biking, Mountain Boarding, Water-ski Jumping, and Windsurfing.  Ian Williams of Fat Face said “The whole of the Night Series is based on the success of the original event, the Fat Face Night Surf now in its 6th year and we are looking forward to an incredible weekend of surfing and party!”

Dave Reed of the BPSA said “It’s great to have continued support from the likes of Fat Face. They are actually putting something back into the scene and that is what this tour needs.”

A big thanks to Fat Face for their continued support of UK surfing as well as tour sponsors Foster’s and Freerange Sports Optics.
