North Shore Invitational Golf Tournament
1st Annual Tournament to Benefit Ocean Recreation Program
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 October, 2006 : - - NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HI - As part of the annual Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Series on the North Shore of Oahu, Vans will this winter be hosting the 1st Annual North Shore Invitational charitable golf tournament on Thursday, December 7, 2007. Proceeds from this year's event will go to equipment for the Department of Parks & Recreation Ocean Recreation and Junior Guard programs at Haleiwa Surf Center.
The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing will be donating a Boston whaler sport model boat, a Yamaha wave runner, and assorted equipment and trailers for each, worth in excess of $25,000.
"This is going to have a direct positive impact on our Ocean Recreation program," said Ocean Recreation Specialist Kerry Terukina. "Not only that, it will open up programs we are looking to develop in the future.
"This donation will meet the interests and needs of the North Shore community, most importantly our children and the Junior Lifeguard volunteer program that has been educating our teens since 1978."
The equipment will be ready for use for the summer programs of 2007. The Haleiwa Ocean Recreation Center services hundreds of youth through a variety of programs: Junior Guard volunteer program, the summer ocean recreation program, as well as visiting Summer Fun groups from around the island.
"Over the years, we've supported the various lifeguard associations," explains Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Director Randy Rarick. "This year we decided to step it up a notch and get behind the entire Ocean Recreation program at Haleiwa's Ali'i Beach Park."
The 1st Annual North Shore Invitational golf tournament will take place on Thursday, December 7th, which is the lay day between stops two and three of the Series: the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing & Roxy Pro women's events at Sunset Beach (Nov. 26 to Dec. 6) and the Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters (Dec. 8-20).
