Dismal Praia Mata surf forces early halt to Day Five proceedings at the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships.

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 May, 2007 : - - Contest Director Marcos Bukao called an early halt to proceedings on Day Five of the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships yesterday (Thursday May 10), when the surf dropped to just one foot and the weather changed from hot to cold at Praia Mata, Costa Da Caparica, Portugal.

By then it was too late for Kyle Lane who had a disastrous round three repercharge round early on in the day to become the third South African to exit the event.  Dale Staples on the other hand surfed the tiny onshore conditions with speed and flow and was a solid second behind eventual heat winner Kolohe Andino of the USA in repercharge round three.

"I felt really good out there in my heat. I had fun and I am just amped to carry on" said Staples who now comes up against team vice captain Shaun Joubert, Joclyn Poulou of Tahiti and Andre Pastori of Brazil in heat six of the next round.

Nicky Godfrey faces Dimitri Ouvre of France, Kaito Obashi of Japan and Carlos Muniz of Costa Rica in heat two of this round which will be held Friday May 11 in what is expected to be some of the biggest and best surf of the event.  Live webcasting, heat results, press releases and photos are available on www.quiksilver.com/isa and www.isasurf.org

There are updated photos of the Parade of Nations and the first four days of competition on www.wpsurfing.co.za  All local press releases will be posted on www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za daily.
