Dane gets 2nd in France, qualifies for the 'CT

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 September, 2007 : - - Last weekend in France, DC’s Dane Reynolds placed second at the Rip Curl Pro Super Series in Hossegor, France, a crucial round of the 2007 World Qualifying Series. Besides the $10,000 take home, the strong finish helped Dane realize his goal this year of qualifying for the 2008 World Championship Tour… he amassed the required 11,500 point total, and we’ll see him battle it out as one of the world’s top 44 next year!

Conditions in France were all over the place throughout the contest. Early rounds saw 6 footers chopped up by strong onshores and big rips. For the later rounds things cleaned up to present head high, glassy, and sometimes perfect Hossegor. Dane progressed through it all with relative ease, approaching each heat as if he were free surfing and putting on a display of speed, power, and some unusual turns in the oftentimes-unpredictable beach break.  

In the two-man final the mental game caught up with Dane though. He said, “I started to think about it too much. I fell early on - maybe I was trying a little too hard.” None-the-less, Dane’s performance in France gave him enough points to qualify for the ’08 ‘CT, the entire point of the World Qualifying Series. “I guess it hasn't really sunk in yet,” said Dane about qualifying. “That’s what it's been all about, so yeah, I'm really pleased they say I've made it.”

From here, Dane will spend the next few months filming with Taylor Steele for Taylor’s next movie, and also continue competing in select 6-star WQS events for the rest of 2007. Congratulations of qualifying for the WCT, Dane.
