Reef Announces Sponsorship of Reef Hawaiian Pro on Oahu's North Shore

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 September, 2007 : - - Carlsbad, Ca -- Reef is proud to announce the 2007 Reef Hawaiian Pro, the first stop in the prestigious Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. The event is set to run November 12-24, 2007 at Ali'i Beach in Haleiwa Town on Oahu's famous North Shore. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, with the Reef Hawaiian Pro the newest addition to this historic event series.

"Taking ownership of the Reef Hawaiian Pro exemplifies the brand's commitment to the sport," says PJ Connell, Reef Sports Marketing Manager. "We're putting all of our energy into creating a high quality, exciting event that does justice for one of surfing's most important legacies, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing."

The Reef Hawaiian Pro's 6-star WQS rating raises the stakes for WQS surfers on the verge of qualifying for the 2008 WCT. This event is the second to last chance for surfers to grab vital rating points before the end of the season. In addition to the all-important points, the world's top surfers will be vying for the $125,000 prize purse and the first jewel of the Vans Triple Crown.

"The Reef Hawaiian Pro officially kicks of the professional surf season in Hawaii, sets the tone and creates momentum for the Triple Crown race," says Randy Rarick, Director of the Vans Triple Crown. "Reef is one of the leading surf brands in the world and we are extremely excited to have them as a partner! With Reef's help, we will further grow the legacy of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing as the biggest event in professional surfing."

Reef team riders Ben Bourgeois and Jay "Bottle" Thompson are currently ranked in the WQS top ten and will be looking to the Reef Hawaiian Pro to gather their final points for WCT qualification. "I'm super stoked that Reef is part of the Triple Crown!" says Thompson. "This has been an amazing year for me on the WQS and I hope to do the boys proud at the Reef Hawaiian Pro."

On the womens' side, the Reef Hawaiian Pro is the very last WQS event and one of only three 6-star WQS events in 2007. That makes it a crucial event to gain points toward 2008 Women's World Championship Tour qualification. The winner of the Reef Hawaiian Pro will take home $10,000 and a new Chevy truck, identical to the men's prize.

Last year, Reef footwear rider Sofia Mulanovich took her first step toward her overall Triple Crown victory with a win at Haleiwa. She'll be back in Haleiwa this year to defend her title.

People all over the world will be watching the Reef Hawaiian Pro's live webcast at reef.com or triplecrownofsurfing.com to find out who qualifies for next year's WCT as it happens. If you are on the North Shore from November 12-24, 2007, stop by Ali'i Beach Park near Haleiwa to take in all of the action firsthand. With a former Hawaiian Pro winners list that includes Andy Irons, Pancho Sullivan and Sunny Garcia, the stakes are high and the action is sure to be intense.
