Hawaiian surfers compete on the North Shore for invite to Billabong World Jr Champs
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 September, 2007 : - - The Billabong Junior Pro is an event Billabong sponsors on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 2007 Junior World Tour in Hawaii held in memory of Ronnie Burns. The top four placing men and top two placing women in the event will gain an invitation to the Billabong Junior World Championships 2007 in Narrabeen, Australia.
The contest waiting period runs September 10th to September 18th. The contest will be run on the best two days in the nine day window at Sunset Beach, North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii. Open Entry for Hawaiian qualifiers.
The hottest male and female junior surfers in Hawaii will compete. In order for surfers to qualify in this series they cannot turn 21 during the 2007 tour year. The competition is the top 64-man format, and a limited entry girls division, with standard ASP 2007 Junior Series event rules. The ASP 2007 judging criteria will be used by four ASP rated judges with the head judge officiating.
This Grade 2 event is sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), the organization that controls professional surfing globally. The juniors receive a total of US $12,500 in prize money; $10,000 for the junior men and $2500 for the junior women.
