Surf Films & Surf Stars Set to Take Center Stage

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 October, 2007 : - - Haleiwa, HI - The North Shore Festival, the gateway to this winter's big wave surf season, is shaping up to be a unique blend of live entertainment, Hawaiian culture, feature movies, and a full slate of fun for locals families and visitors to Hawaii.

The North Shore Festival will be staged at Haleiwa Beach Park, on Oahu's North Shore, November 10th and 11th, from 12-noon to 10 p.m. both days. All movies and live entertainment at the Festival are free.

Movies under the stars will be a feature of this year's North Shore Festival, with a variety of surf themes sure to appeal to everyone. Sunday night will be movie night and visitors are invited to bring along a picnic blanket and pillows or chairs. The North Shore Festival's family feature presentation will be Surf's Up, the summer's biggest wave from Sony Pictures Animation featuring the Voice Talents of Shia LaBeouf, Jeff Bridges, Zooey Deschanel and Jon Heder.

Tomorrow Today is Transworld SURF magazine's first film. With some of the most radical surfing ever captured on film, Tomorrow Today fuses animated dream sequences into reality, where each surfer performs his repertoire of unbelievable tricks.

Featuring the actions, words, and thoughts of five of the most progressive and relevant surfers in the world: Dane Reynolds, Bobby Martinez, Mike Losness, Yadin Nichol, and Clay Marzo--Tomorrow/Today will help bridge the gap between the present and the future.

Taking a trip down retro lane, Stylemasters 2 revisits the North Shore winter of 1980/81, when Dane Kealoha, Shaun Tomson, Bobby Owens, Mark Richards and many of surfing's true greats ruled supreme on the "twin fin". Classic man-on-the-beach interviews combined with spectacular scenes and surf cinematography make this an enjoyable trip down memory lane for those who remember, and a history lesson in pro surfing for those who don't.

Live music will also take center-stage, with a special performance from Timmy Curran. Curran is a professional surfer who recently released his first full length album called "Word of Mouth." He has also toured with the Foo Fighters and has developed his own large local following.

Beyond movies and music, guests to this year's festival will be able to sample the best of local food and merchant vendors, as well as a variety of activities. Want to find out about the latest phase of surfing's evolution: stand-up paddle surfing? Try it out and test the newest boards and paddles on the market at the C4Waterman booth. For the little ones, try out the Turtle Bay Keiki Village for a variety of interactive games and activities.

The North Shore Festival, at historic Haleiwa Town, will signal the start of the world's most prestigious and longest running series of professional big-wave surfing events: the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this winter, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing officially gets underway November 12, with the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa Ali'i Beach Park, running through December 20 with three world class events for both men and women that culminate in the crowning of the 2007 ASP World Champions.

The North Shore Festival is made possible by the support of the City & County of Honolulu, the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, the Turtle Bay Resort, TransWorld SURF, project BLUE, C4Waterman, and REEF.
