SURF COMMUNITY RALLIES TO HELP SURF FAMILY BABY
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 February, 2009 : - - Santa Monica, Ca -- When Baylee & Nick Norman’s three month old son Gavan was diagnosed with CRANIOSYNOSTOSIS, a condition where the bones of the skull close prematurely, the little surf family from Santa Monica were shocked but followed their doctor’s advice and prepared their son for surgery.
Craniosynostosis is a condition causing the soft spots of the skull to close too early on an infant. In this case, baby Gavan’s skull down the front of his head closed and needs to be reopened. Without this procedure, the brain will not have room to grow which can lead to massive headaches, possible autism and other ailments.
But what the Norman’s didn’t expect was that their insurance didn’t cover all of the expenses of this dangerous surgery. As one can imagine, a part of the operation includes plastic surgery since the front of the head must be opened. Mother Baylee works part time at ZJ Boarding House Surf Shop in Santa Monica and father Nick is a carpenter and don’t have the cash deposit that is needed by the end of February.
But the surfing community is rallying to the cause. Employees at ZJ Boarding House operate like a big family and have dug into their pockets to help Gavan but think they could do more. A ZJ employee has now created an online site so others could donate to help baby Gavan and funds are starting to roll in little by little: Check Here

Many thanks to the surfing community who have been chipping in $5, $10, $25, etc. Every little bit will help baby Gavan on his way to this serious surgery. ZJ Boarding House (310)392-9907
