Billabong and VAS release a Double Dose with Still Filthy and original Filthy Habits
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 December, 2009 : - - Billabong is releasing a double dose of surf madness this holiday season with Still Filthy and the original Filthy Habits. The films are being released today on Blu-ray the first ever double feature surf film on the state of the art new technology.
Still Filthy won the 2009 Best Film Award at the Surfer Poll Awards this year. Filthy Habits, released more than 2 decades ago, has become one of the standards in the surf film genre. “The movie didn’t even try to be sick, it just came out that way,” says Shane Dorian during an interview on Surfline recently. “It’s still so much fun to watch.”
“A massive reason Filthy Habits resonated so strongly with me back in '89 was the soundtrack,” says Jarrod Tallman, the Director of the sequel, Still Filthy. “If I didn't already have it, I definitely ended up owning every album that had a song featured the film. I can close my eyes and picture Ronnie Burns driving down the line at G-Land while Social Distortion's 'Prison Bound' motored along, or Occy in the legendary black-and-yellow part at the end, carving in slow motion to T.S.O.L's 'Take Me Away' straight into the strange Aussie country rock of The Johnny's ballad 'Injun Joe'. I remember those scenes because of the music.”
The film has been completely re-mastered and still holds up to the scrutiny of the best today. “The sickest movie ever until the sequel,” says 3-time World Champion Andy Irons, who knows a sick part when he sees one. His sequences in Still Filthy are considered some of the best free surfing seen this year. And the Blu-ray production gives both films the best values possible.
“We wanted to offer this quality to the surfing consumer,” says Graham Stapelberg, VP of Marketing at Billabong. “Blu-ray is the newest and the best way to see a surf flick.”
The term “Blu-ray” is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience.
“We’re very excited to offer this double feature for holiday on Blu-Ray,” says Ben Bryan, VAS’s Senior Director, International. “It’s a great value for consumers and the only place to catch the late 80’s classic. Ask for it worldwide at your neighborhood surf shop. And for those land-locked surfers it’s also available online through outlets such as Amazon.”
