Ului Threatening Solomon Islands; Fiji Targeted By Tomas
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 March, 2010 : - - As of Sunday morning, EST, Ului wielded sustained winds as high as 160 mph around its eye; gusts were as high as 195 mph. Centered 350 miles to the west-northwest of Vanuatu, Ului was drifting toward the west-northwest at 9 mph.
Ului's projected path will generally be toward the west, passing south of the Solomon Islands However, the nation's southern islands, including Guadalcanal and San Cristobal, could be lashed by high winds and heavy rain. Rennell Island, in particular, could be dealt a severe blow.

Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Tomas looms as a serious threat to Fiji.
As of Sunday morning, EST, Tomas held maximum-sustained winds of 95 mph and gusts to 120 mph around its center which was about 340 miles to the northeast of Nadi, Fiji; it was drifting southwestward at 9 mph.
Tomas is forecast to strengthen while taking on a southward heading. On its projected course, the cyclone would deliver a direct hit upon the island of Vanua Levu and also hammer Viti Levu early next week. The storm has the potential to unleash destructive winds and flooding rain upon Fiji.
